These are hilarious! I would definitely recommend checking out the work of William Heath Robinson, his illustrations remind me very much of these prints.

Thanks for the tip about Robinson, I hadn't heard of him before.
I agree with you that the illustrations seem pretty funny now but in the 1890s this was cutting edge technology. I adore these volumes and I'll be posting some more from them (hopefully with some supplementary links). The problem is my rudimentary French will require me to enlist a brains trust to get the best value.
